California is home to many of the country's dedicated military personnel, and Veterans Day is an important day here in the state's capital. There are a number of events honoring military men and women, and the sacrifices they and their families make in order to preserve our precious freedom.

The Sacramento Youth Symphony invites the public to this free concert on Veterans Day. The City of Sacramento Pipe Band will perform with the symphony's Premier Orchestra, offering an inspiring and patriotic event to honor veterans from across the country. The Symphony, conducted by violinist, arts educator and artistic director Michael Neumann, is home to more than 400 young musicians and performers. The organization offers up to 20 concerts each year in the Sacramento Valley area.

Guests ages 21 and older are invited to this festive evening, which celebrates and honors veterans both past and present. The 5th annual event is put on by the Rotary Club of El Dorado Hills, and raises funds to support local veterans programs. Live blues music, local craft beers, food, wine and dancing are all part of the exciting event.

The Wall of Remembrance is visiting Sacramento, and will be placed near the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the east end of Capitol Park. Designed and funded by Richard Nichols and Marine David Brown, the Global War on Terror Wall was created to mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. A ceremony in honor of those who fought will be held in the park at 1 p.m. on November 7. The public can also visit the memorial any time between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. through November 11. Sacramento will be the 50th and final stop before the traveling wall is retired; a new memorial is in the process of being designed.

The rousing City of Sacramento Veterans Day Parade is a tradition in the state capital, drawing crowds from across the region in honor of U.S. military personnel. Following the annual parade, the public is invited to stay on the Capitol Mall for a Veterans Day festival. Food trucks, displays celebrating our military and a carnival for the kids are part of the festivities.

Old Sugar Mill invites the public to honor our fighting men and women at this two-day picnic in Clarksburg, located 10 minutes south of downtown Sacramento. There is no admission fee, but food, beverages and other miscellaneous items will be available for purchase. The Veterans weekend event will include music and other entertainment; picnic blankets can be borrowed or guests can bring their own lawn chairs. The Old Sugar Mill complex features wines from 10 Sacramento region wineries.
