  • Benihana Co. was founded in NYC in 1964 by 25-yo Hiroaki "Rocky" Aoki. As a wrestler he qualified for the 1960 Summer Olympics. He started Co. w/ $10,000 earned by driving an ice cream truck in Harlem
  • Benihana (Japanese: ) means "Safflower." Founder Hiroaki Aoki named the 1st restaurant, Benihana of Tokyo, for the red Safflower that was the name for the coffee shop owned by his parents in Tokyo.
  • The food was a bit salty the show was okay. Service is great. I prefer hana Japan in berkeley if I'd had to choose.

  • My kids loved it so much.
  • If you feel like splurging the scallops are so good! Always get the chicken fried rice instead of steamed and order a sushi roll for an app. I never get full off the regular meal.
  • I just ordered Spicy Hibachi Chicken which was really spicy but the Japanese Chef kept supplying side-dishes, even some shrimps to our plates just from the grill great food, great show
  • Delicious food, having your own chef so you can ask for some changes.
  • Not good for vegetarians but nice place to take your parents when they are in town
  • Not everyone can do the fire show. Neither can my server.
