Back Pedal Brewing to Open on the Same Block as 10 Barrel Portland

Back Pedal Brewing to Open on the Same Block as 10 Barrel Portland

Brewcycle Portland’s Back Pedal Brewing is set to open this spring on the exact same block as the new 10 Barrel Brewing Portland location, just two doors down on Northwest Flanders and 14th. Brewcycle has been offering rolling pub-cycle powered brewery tours for a few years in Portland, and in November 2013 the company opened a taphouse called The BrewStop at its headquarters. The BrewStop is no more, and owner Chris Lins tells me that crews will be pulling out the kitchen to replace it with a 3.5 bbl brewery.

BrewStop essentially served as a starting and ending point for Brewcycle’s tours with 24 rotating taps, a kitchen, and full liquor bar so people could keep the party going, and a handful of flatscreen TVs made for a good spot to catch a game. The space even offerred discounted shots and cocktails. Perhaps competition was too tight, or perhaps because the Brew Stop was surprisingly hard to see, Brewcycle has decided to start over with a brewery and tasting room that will still be the main hub for Brewcycle tours.

The BrewStop is now closed and under construction while tours still leave from the same spot, and the Back Pedal Brewing operation plans to release beer by April. A new brewer is lined up but is still under wraps, as he/she is currently employed at another brewery around town. Back Pedal Brewing will give up its full liquor license but keep all the tap lines to be dedicated to house beers, as well as cider and wine. The brewhouse will be featured behind large rolling glass doors visible from the bar and will be easy to see for everyone leaving on the cycle tours. With Fat Head’s Brewing just 3 blocks away, 10 Barrel on the same block, Rogue across the street, and Deschutes, Bridgeport, and Pints Brewing all within a short walking distance, this may be the densest brewery neighborhood in the city now.
