As you wean yourself off soda and other sugary drinks that are terrible for your health, you may be leaning toward drinking iced tea. Iced tea is generally considered to be one of the healthier drink options, as it's loaded with beneficial nutrients and antioxidants. But depending on how much sugar is added to your iced tea, is it really that healthy?
If you’re drinking iced tea that’s loaded with sugar, you might as well be drinking those sugary sodas you were hooked on before. It might seem healthier, but if the iced tea you're drinking is packed with high amounts of sugar, carbohydrates, and calories, it really isn’t that healthy.
Because drink manufacturers tend to add sweeteners to their bottled beverages to make them taste better, some of your favorite brands of iced teas are actually not as healthy as you might think. While some brands such as Honest Tea do contain a much lower amount of sugar than other brands such as Lipton, Tazo, and Arizona, unsweetened tea is usually the better option. Be sure to check the label before you drink. Take a look at the unhealthiest bottled iced teas.
