Café Gitane

242 Mott St.

New York, NY 10012

(718) 334-9552

You can thank Café Gitane for starting the avo-toast craze, but we're not complaining. They compliment their avocado smash on seven grain toast with lemon juice, olive oil, and chili flakes for the added kick. However, do your stomach a favor and don't stop at the toast. We highly recommend sharing the spicy sausage egg sandwich on a French baguette, as well as the baked egg dish with basil, tomato sauce, and cream.

Jack's Wife Freda

224 Lafayette St.

New York, NY 10012

(212) 510-8550

Jack's Wife Freda surprised us with their take on this popular plate. They add cherry tomato jam, pickled carrots, and za'atar for a Mediterranean twist. You will find that the rest of their menu is also inspired by Mediterranean cuisine, with other popular dishes like the Green Shakshuka (baked eggs) and Grilled Haloumi Egg Breakfast. Be sure to pay attention to their flirty sugar packets and interactive postcards which make the brunch experience extra unique.

The Butcher's Daughter

19 Kenmare St.

New York, NY 10012

(212) 219-3434

We stumbled upon The Butcher's Daughter while on he search for a juice bar, but turns out they are much more than that. They distinguish their avocado toast by adding curry, cilantro, mustard seeds, and lime on thick multi-grain bread. Their love for avocado spills into other areas of the menu, a few of our favorites being the smashed avocado toast benedict and Monterey egg breakfast. As if we didn't love this place enough already, they even have "boozy popsicles" to seal the deal for a fresh and fruity dessert.

Jeffrey's Grocery

172 Waverly Place

New York, NY 10014

(646) 398-7630

Jeffrey's Grocery is one of our West Village favorites with a focus on seafood and American fare. They put a delicious spin on their avocado toast by adding chives to the typical lemon juice, olive oil, and chili fake combination. If you go for brunch, we're sure you'll be pleased with the croissant breakfast sandwich or pastrami burger. But one of the other best times to stop by is during their Oyster Happy Hour which is everyday from 4-6 p.m.

Joseph Leonard

170 Waverly Place

New York, NY 10014

(646) 429-8383

Joseph Leonard's avo-toast stands out because it comes as a part of an egg breakfast. Nothing can beat the ambiance either — tucked away in a local West Village spot with exposed brick and rustic yet chic décor. We guarantee that every dish you try will be amazing here, but be on the lookout for their one of a kind hash brown (probably the size of your head) with the best crisp to soft ratio we have ever seen.
