Written by South African playwright Athol Fugard in 1990 as the revolution was mounting to end apartheid, "My Children! My Africa!" takes place in 1984 in a segregated classroom in a small town in South Africa. A black male teacher forms a debate team with a star, a white female student. While inside the classroom, the teacher can present that nonviolence is the answer; outside he is challenged by racism, unrest and the growing movement to end apartheid. It is through the story of this teacher and one student that the microcosm of the country is presented.
