10 Wild Weddings
Recipe of the day
When thinking of the North Pole, more often than not visions of Santa on his sleigh, reindeer stamping their feet on the icy ground, and a frozen landscape blanketed in snow come to mind. Not a wedding. But for one couple with a love for adventure, there was no better place to tie the knot than at the top of the world, 90 degrees true north. When planning the special day, perhaps redefining what the term “white wedding” means was on the couple’s minds. One thing is for sure, though — the unusual setting of the ceremony also puts the duo amongst a new class of folks that are incorporating their shared passion for adventure into one of the most exciting days of their lives.
There are few limits these days on what can be done to make a wedding unique, memorable, and even fantasy-like. However, when it comes to customizing your wedding, many concepts are trending toward literal extremes for enthusiast couples that, more often than not, provide guests with an experience of a lifetime all while witnessing their friends tie the knot.
Imagine the surprise of receiving a wedding invitation where the suggested attire is “wet suit and flippers,” and guests are asked to be SCUBA certified, and bring an oxygen tank. One couple with a love for the deep sea opted for a ceremony that took place submerged in water, off the coast of Venezuela. No detail was overlooked, from the swim down the aisle, an underwater arch decorated with roses and the couple’s names, to a “Just Married” buoy that was to be tied to their weight belts as they swam off together as husband and wife.
If that wedding you attended last weekend wasn’t exciting enough for you, consider the experience of being a guest aboard a ship called Commitment, in Antarctica. Not exactly your grandmother’s wedding. After tying the knot atop an iceberg, the couple pulled out all the stops for their guests, who had traveled so far, tempting them with a full, catered meal and dancing to the music of a DJ back onboard the ship. Surrounded by floating icebergs and humpback whales swimming in the distance, it sounds like one unforgettable reception that we wish we were invited to.
