Where To Travel-Or Live-If You're A Foodie

In 1993, I left my hometown of New York, New York ("So nice, they named it twice."), and moved to China, where I still live. My father, after who I was named, missed me terribly from Day One. In 1996, he asked me over the phone, "When are you moving back?" I replied, "I don't know."  After a long silence, he said, "Well, you always did love Chinese food."

Ironically, the family member who considered a Big Mac meal a gourmet feast GOT IT. My mother, who subscribed to Gourmet Magazine DIDN'T.

Thirty years ago, the late shock comic Sam Kinison suggested that we not send food to Ethiopian famine victims, but U-Hauls. "TO TAKE THEM TO WHERE THE FOOD IS!"

So, if you're a foodie, where should you live? WHERE THE FOOD IS!

If food is your passion, then you should live where people share your passion. To hell with national boundaries. As long as you have a "safe" passport, you can live anywhere you like. I live in Guangzhou (f/k/a Canton). Why?

Because the Chinese have a saying: "If you want to enjoy the best life has to offer, you should: Be born in Hangzhou, marry in Suzhou, EAT IN GUANGZHOU, and die in Liuzhou."

Hangzhou has the most beautiful scenery, Suzhou has the most beautiful women, Guangzhou has the most beautiful food, and Liuzhou has the most beautiful hardwood forests, which produce the most beautiful coffins.

So, what is YOUR favorite food? Cajun? Move to Louisiana. French? Move to France. Middle Eastern? Move to Morocco. FUSION Middle Eastern? Move to Israel!

Seriously, if you believe that you should live your passion, and your passion is FOOD, then why not go to WHERE THE FOOD IS?

If A equals B, and B equals C, then doesn't A always C?

Life is short. Live it.
