Where To Drink In Portland This Weekend

Portland Beervana weekend sky

It is an exceptionally packed weekend of beer events in the Portland area this weekend and anyone would be hard pressed to choose between the Peche Fest, Breakside Milwaukie Oktoberfest, Beers Made By Walking, Willamette Week's Pro-Am, Hi-Wheel Wine & Mead's Grand Opening, the Skamania Lodge Celebration of Beer and Portland Brewing's Macs Fresh Hop Fest.

2nd annual Peche Fest
Saturday October 11th 2pm – 10pm
I am biased as I have a hand in the fest but I think the Peche Fest has the best lineup of exciting beers if your a fan of delicious fruit and tart and sour beers. There are literally some of the finest fruit sours ever made pouring alongside each other here from a who's who of Oregon's hottest brewers and some beyond. Plus it's very approachable at only $10 to start. More info here.

Willamette Week Pro-Am
Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Willamette Week is holding their 2nd Pro-Am fest wherein homebrewers team up with local probrewers to brew their recipes and you get to try them all and vote for your favorite. Again I am involved with this fest too as a competitor/entrant with my beer "Super, Sour,___" an experimental sour citrus IPA brewed with Bryan Keilty at Lompoc Brewing. I will have more on this beer later as we do an official release after the fest but if you are attending the Pro-Am I urge you to try it. Tickets here.

Participating brewer teams include:

10 Barrel Brewing, with Lee Hedgmon
13 Virtues, with Paul Johnson

Breakside Milwaukie Oktoberfest
Saturday October 11th Noon – 6pm
Breakside Brewery is holding their first ever Oktoberfest at their Milwaukie location and I have even been helping out at this event too. Primarily targeted at families and Milwaukie residents this will be the first time the large brewery and taproom is open to kids with activities for them and adults alike. There will even be a delicious German food menu and Breakside is rolling out a bunch of German-themed beers as well. More info here.

Beers Made By Walking – Portland 2014
Sat. October 11th /// 12-5pm
Belmont Station /// Cheese Bar /// Horse Brass Pub
Pay per pint

Eric Steen's Beers Made By Walking series of events are some of the most fun and creative beer events in the northwest and if this larger 3 location version has anywhere near as good of beers as the recent one in Denver then your in for a treat. BMBW and Forest Park Conservancy will celebrate the end of a summer-long series of hikes with brewers by tapping sixteen beers. Each of the beers have been created after the brewers hiked an Oregon trail, gained inspiration from the landscape, and used local plants in their place-based beer.

On October 11th, from 12-5pm, the beers will be available at three of Portland's famous beer bars: Cheese BarBelmont Station, and Horse Brass Pub. Drinkers can visit any of the three pubs in any order from 12-5pm. Pint sales at all three locations will benefit the Forest Park Conservancy. For those interested in a scheduled walk between venues, our friends at Oregon Walks have organized a free walking tour between the three bars.

Hi-Wheel Wine & Mead Grand Opening Party
Saturday October 11th 3 – 10pm
I already previewed Hi-Wheel Wine & Mead's new tasting room last week but they are officially grand opening today with a jazz quartet and free food from Tamale Boy and more. I am hoping to get in there soon and have a larger writeup about how cool and unique the product is that they are putting out here.

Skamania Lodge Celebration of Beer
Saturday October 11th 12 – 5pm
Somehow I miss the Skamania Lodge Celebration of Beer every year and this year will be no different. A handful of years ago I sent "SNOB" Ritch out there in my place and he had a terrific time and wrote up this great report on the festivities: http://newschoolbeer.com/2012/09/4th-annual-weekend-of-beer-at-skamania-lodge.html
