MIAMI, Nov. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- In honor of National Adoption Awareness Month in November, Wendy's® restaurants across the country, including hundreds of locations in South Florida, will be hosting National Adoption Night on November 15th, a one-night event where 15 percent of restaurant sales from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. will go directly to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption®.

Created by Wendy's founder Dave Thomas, who was adopted, The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is a national nonprofit public charity dedicated exclusively to finding permanent homes for the more than 130,000 children waiting in North America's foster care systems. Each year, more children enter the system than are adopted. In Florida, there are currently over 5,550 children in the foster system waiting to be adopted.

"We believe every child deserves a loving home, and hope that National Adoption Night not only raises funds for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, but also promotes children in the foster care system who need loving homes within our community," said Ed Austin, President of Wendy's South Florida Co-Op. "While November is National Adoption Awareness Month, at Wendy's we support adoption and foster care efforts year round."

National Adoption Month, celebrated annually since 1995, works to increase the number of families willing to consider adoption and celebrates the unique joys of creating families through adoption. The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, through its signature program Wendy's Wonderful Kids® (WWK), works closely with teenagers waiting to be adopted from foster care. Using a child-focused recruitment model, WWK recruiters work to find families for these older youth, along with other children in danger of aging out without a family. In Florida, over 600 children have been adopted through the Wendy's Wonderful Kids program.
