Wendy’s is not going to be left behind by the sriracha bandwagon. ChewBoom reports that Wendy’s is rolling out the Spicy Sriracha Chicken Sandwich that it has tested throughout the year.
There’s been no official announcement, but the sandwich (shown below) is included on Wendy’s website, where the 670-calorie creation is described as “our iconic Spicy Chicken, topped with a one of kind Sriracha Jack Cheese, thick-cut applewood smoked bacon, creamy sriracha aïoli, spring mix, and red onion, all served on a toasted sriracha-infused bakery-style bun.”
As McDonald’s—testing a Sriracha Mac Sauce—and many others know, sriracha sauce can be used profitably for other menu items as well as on burgers: on loaded fries and as dipping sauce are obvious options. And in March, Wendy’s tested a flanker side of Bacon Sriracha Fries with the chicken sandwich, which was priced at $5.19 for the Ohio test. Rollout price for the LTO may be $5.39.
For its Q4, ended Oct. 2, 2016, Jack in the Box reported same-store sales increases of 0.5% for company stores (about 10% of its system) and 2.4% for franchised stores (which presumably took more price increase). The company-store gain was the result of an 0.6% increase in mix and 2.9% in price offset by a 3% decline in transactions.
In a call with analysts yesterday, CEO Len Comma said Jack’s decision to emphasize premium-price—including the Jack’s Brewhouse Bacon Burger—and midscale-price menu items rather than just value items “played out exceptionally well.”
Comma said that consumers have “responded favorably” to its Brunchfast menu and the breakfast was its strongest daypart in the quarter. A $2.99 breakfast platter combo no doubt helped that. Jack continues to test delivery, partnering with DoorDash in San Francisco, as reported earlier.
In addition to the previously reported Festive Cheese Feast burger McDonald’s is unveiling for the holidays in the UK, the chain has presents for other markets as well.
In Canada, McDonald’s has introduced a “Season’s Cravings” menu with a Potato Rösti & Bacon Burger (below), waffle-cut fries and a Turtles Sundae with Pecans.
In Sweden, chef Johan Jureskog has created two new burgers. The first, called the Jureskog Signature burger, has Black Sara cheese; bacon; tomato; a ketchup with celery salt, horseradish and Tabsco; and a sauce of mayo and Dijon mustard. It’s avaailable 11/22 to 12/12. It will be followed by the Jureskog New York burger (though Jan. 9, 2017), with Cheddar, grilled onions and roasted onions, plus pickles and a truffled mayo.
