Born and raised in the Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York, Chef Russell has always had a strong interest in agriculture and aquaculture. Frequenting nearby farms as a child, Jeff utilized his knowledge of local produce and proteins to develop his own culinary creations at the early age of 15. Realizing that cooking was more than just a pastime, Jeff enrolled in the famed Culinary Institute of America where he fine-tuned his culinary skills and found an appreciation for whole animal butchery and house made charcuterie.
After graduating the CIA, Jeff made his way across the country, landing at The Broadmoor, a five-star luxury hotel in Colorado Springs. There he interned and learned from Culinary Gold Medal Winner Sigfried Eisenberger and had the opportunity to fine-tune his culinary skills, often preparing cuisine for events hosting up to 2,000 guests.
In 2007, Chef Russell had yet another opportunity to study under a great master chef. Laying ground in New York City, Jeff achieved the role of Lead Line Cook and eventually Junior Sous Chef at Michelin starred Aureole – renowned Chef Charlie Palmer’s famous New York City flagship restaurant. Proving to be an efficient and passionate leader in the kitchen, Chef Palmer asked Russell to be a part of his Charlie Palmer Steak DC team. Over the past four years, Chef Russell has worked his way up to Executive Sous Chef, winning over diners with his playful yet grounded dishes composed of locally raised, farm fresh ingredients.
In 2011, Chef Russell was again tapped by Chef Palmer to venture to Denver, CO, to open two new concepts with the Charlie Palmer Group, District Meats and Wazee Wood Fire Pizza. After being voted “Top of the Town” by 5280 magazine for the best pizza in Denver, Chef Russell was lured back to our nation’s capital and Charlie Palmer Steak DC where he currently resides as Executive Chef. Chef Russell is dedicated to the art of American food and carefully crafted a menu focused on artisanal cuts of beef, classic steakhouse dishes and locally sourced ingredients.
