Tips
- "On a menu full of earthy curiositieslike ... a smoked-catfish-and-pork spread that sounds horrible but tastes wonderful as a dip for market cruditsadventure is its own reward."
- The banana leaf salad is the best Thai dish in the world you haven't eaten. Get your spicy pants on because this will light you up -- or get a beer slushy.
- One of our 2014 Food & Drink Award Winners, Uncle Boons marries flawless technique with Thailand flavors. Baby octopus and a frozen Singha beer slushie might be the best bar meal in the 5 boroughs.
- Elevated but casual takes on Thai food, authentic in ingredients and technique if not in approach.
- Flat egg noodles swim in a heady golden curry with deep-fried noodles, a tender chicken leg, and a float of pickled mustard greens in the Khao Soi Kaa Kai. Need we say more?
- Daily Candy's reco's: Salted black crab and coconut dip crudite, Northern Thai noodles (chicken, cilantro, mustard greens) and Crispy, ginger-sauced skate (rice noodles, egg, dried anchovies).
- Recommend: chicken salad with banana blossoms (spicy), grilled blow fish,, chicken curry, coconut ice cream with cream. I LOVE this restaurant!
- The boons brew is amazing and slightly spicy!
- Good food weird service. Get the golden curry and roti.
- Uncle Boons' Milk Toast is better than a donut. The restaurant's Milk Bread is inspired by sweet toasts typically sold at coffee shops in Thailand.
- Do not skip the khao soi! Also, get some wine on tap.
- Beer slushie is a must, but you have to drink it fast!
- khao soi bitch
- EVERYTHING!
- Try the khao soi kaa kai from our 2013 list of best 100 dishes. Coconut curry with fresh turmeric, tender stewed chicken leg, pickled mustard greens, and hand-rolled egg noodles.
- Frogs legs, massaman curry and spicy ale are winners! Lamb salad with sticky rice as well, really interesting and delicious food!
- The best grilled octopus I've had in my life! Try the Boons brew too
- I didn't eat all day until I got there. After I got home from the dinner. I had a mild diarrhea that night. Not sure if it was the food or not eating all day. But I did enjoy the food.
- Do not miss the banana blossom salad. Incredibly spicy and bright, it's one of the best starters in the city. Also congrats the the Michelin star!
- Order a ton and eat family-style. Betel leaf wraps, golden curry, charred octopus, and spicy lamb salads are all musts. Don't sleep on the spicy boon brew, it's dope.
