If you’re spending today meat-free, consider all the places around the world where you could be doing the same thing — and having an equally, if not more, amazing experience. Meatless Monday-ers, we pulled from our list of the world’s best vegan destinations to give you ideas for where to travel next.
While most of these destinations are in North America — and, in other words, easier for the majority of our readers to get to — we included one special destination abroad for those meatless-eaters who dream big about travel. Keep reading to see what this destination. Hint: It is a place where you’ll also find the world’s best sabich, a sandwich with fried eggplant, hard-boiled eggs, hummus, fresh salad greens, and hot sauce.
According to The Guardian, the average British carnivore eats over 11,000 animals in a lifetime — one goose, one rabbit, four cattle, 18 pigs, 23 sheep and lambs, 28 ducks, 39 turkeys, 1,158 chickens, 3,593 shellfish, and 6,182 fish — an amount that is not only expensive, but that may increase the risk of obesity, cancer, heart disease, and other illnesses. Nobody should feel obligated to give up meat, but we need holidays like Meatless Monday to remind ourselves to be more mindful of nature.
