In France, All-American Burgers And Pizza Are Outselling Nearly Everything Else On The Menu

Despite a centuries-long culinary history that has regularly produced the most talented chefs in the world, the nation of France has been suddenly flooded with adoration for hamburgers and pizza, two of the most Yankee foods in existence.

According to one recent study, 75 percent of French restaurants now have a burger on the menu, and 80 percent of those restaurants indicate it's their most popular item.

Moreover, in terms of pizza consumption, France is now second only to the United States. However, America still eats way more pizza, if only because the population of the U.S. is roughly 321 million, and the population of France is 65 million.

Last summer, Paris became enamored by yet another American classic — barbecue. Since 2010, Paris has been home to a number of barbecue joints inspired by the States, run by both expats and locals. "The French once only ate American food as a goofy novelty, but once they've tasted really great barbecue, they come back," Diana Darrah, a Texas native living in Paris, told The New York Times.
