Zaxby's Sauce Is Fast Food's Greatest Mystery

Chicken joints are notorious for having a “special sauce”, such as Chick-fil-a and their Chick-fil-a Sauce, KFC Sauce, and Raising Cane’s top secret, spicy blend. Despite the popularity of special sauces at chicken joints, and even some burger places, the mystery of Zaxby’s Zax sauce still remains.
Zaxby’s has a dozen unique sauces, but the one that really stands out is their Zax Sauce. Co-founder Zach McLeroy made the sauce by himself for years until the organization became so big that they had to begin manufacturing the condiment; even then, the process was designed so that no single person would ever have the full recipe.
Recently, Frios Gourmet Pops made two of Zaxby’s famous sauces, Tongue Torch and Zax Sauce, into popsicles, which gave us a clue about the recipe. We now know that the sweet and tangy Zax Sauce consists of three ingredients: Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and… a secret blend of spices. So close, and yet so far!
