Whenever Elvis Presley took to the stage throughout the 1970s, he always had a full jar of orange-flavored Gatorade. At a show, he said the drink "worked 10x faster than water."
Gatorade was invented around Presley's heyday. It contained salts and sugars that aided the body in digesting and processing the liquid, which helped the drinker feel hydrated.
Elvis' high-energy performances demanded proper hydration, so that might explain why Gatorade was one of his favorite drinks. The recipe might have changed, but the goal remains.
