You Might Want To Pass On Walmart's Raw Pork
By Stacie Adams
Walmart is a good place to shop if you're seeking affordable grocery staples, but you should avoid its raw pork products because many locations don’t employ meat cutters.
Instead, Walmart provides meat that is processed and packaged elsewhere and shipped to the stores. This process of packaging meat can decrease its quality.
Quality is especially important when purchasing raw pork, which can harbor hazardous viruses, bacteria, and even parasites.
In 2019, Newsweek reported that bacteria found in Walmart pork products exhibited a resistance to antibiotics, which animals receive to prevent infection.
Walmart responded by saying it provides customers with “fresh pork from animals raised under the standards of the National Pork Board's Pork Quality Assurance Plus Program.”
However, even with this assurance, the lack of butchers and cutters at Walmart locations leaves it up to consumers to assess the chain’s raw pork products.
