Why You'll Never Find A Hardee's
In Canada
By Cynthia Anaya
Hardee’s has nearly 4,000 restaurants in 44 states and 43 countries and U.S. territories, including Germany and Kuwait. However, one place where you’ll never find a Hardee’s is Canada, and this is due to controversy involving the name of the restaurant.
One year before the first Hardee's opened in the U.S., a restaurant named Harvey's opened in Canada, and it quickly became a beloved staple in Canadian fast food. This caused issues when Hardee’s wanted to expand into Canada, as Canadians believed that the similarity in the names and products between the brands would be an issue.
Though Hardee’s name could not be used in Canada, their parent company, CKE Restaurants, Inc., also owns Carl’s Jr. and placed those restaurants in Canada instead. Carl's Jr. and Hardees have almost identical menus and branding elements, so you can still have a similar experience to Hardee’s in Canada.
