Why You Need To Try Banoffee Pie Before You Die
By Camryn Teder
A popular, ever-evolving British dessert, Banoffee pie has become an absolute go-to dish for people worldwide. With its many textures and satisfying flavor combinations, Banoffee pie is a must-try before you die — and for good reason.
Banoffee pie crust is typically made up of a cinnamon graham cracker base, with subtly sweet bananas and delicious dulce de leche toffee served as a custard-inspired filling. Then it's all topped off with a pillowy layer of whipped cream.
"Banoffee'' is a combination of "banana" and "toffee," says chef Ian Dowding, who felt the earlier version of the dessert, called Blum's Coffee Toffee Pie — made of toffee, butter, sugar, and cream filling — made it nearly impossible to achieve a good consistency. He began boiling cans of sweetened condensed milk in water to make a soft and simple toffee filling, which evolved into the Banoffee pie.
