Why You Need To Start Toasting Bread In A Pan (And What Oils To Use)
By Angel Albring
Some people might not have a toaster because they don't have enough counter space or simply because they don't need one. In this case, you can use an oven to toast your bread, but the best way to get crispy, chewy, and flavorful toast is by frying the bread in a pan with oil.
Toasting bread in a pan creates a crispy exterior that is difficult to achieve with a toaster, and it allows you to control the level of browning to achieve your perfect level of crispiness. You just heat a non-stick pan over medium heat on the stove, add oil or butter to prevent sticking and add flavor, then toast it for two to three minutes on each side.
When it comes down to choosing an oil for your toasted bread, you can experiment with different oils like coconut, avocado, canola, or peanut — or opt for butter instead. It all comes down to what flavor you are going for, as coconut oil’s nutty and subtly sweet flavor pairs well with fruit, while olive oil creates a nice Mediterranean flavor.
