Why Was Starbucks' Ice Cream Stopped?
By Arianna Endicott
Starbucks-branded ice cream hit grocery store shelves in 1996. Each ice cream flavor was made with real coffee, adding a little caffeine kick to every bite.
The initial release featured quarts of five different flavors, including Dark Roast Espresso Swirl, Javachip, Italian Roast, Vanilla Mocha Swirl, and Caffe Almond Fudge.
The ice cream line was discontinued in 2013, and in a Facebook post, Starbucks said they stopped the ice cream to "focus on different products."
However, one commenter wrote that they had contacted Starbucks to find out why it disappeared, and the company reportedly shared that low sales also played a role in the decision.
Before its demise, Starbucks revamped the product in 2009. The lineup was reduced to three pint-sized flavors, limited edition seasonal flavors, and coffee-flavored ice cream bars.
Although the ice cream is off the shelves, fans still reminisce on the beloved frozen treat. For those still craving it, some say Haagen-Dazs coffee-flavored ice cream is similar.
