Why Paying It Forward At The Drive-Thru Isn't Always A Great Idea
By Stacie Adams
Paying it forward is the process of paying for another person's order in drive-thru lines. Once that person discovers this, they pay for the next customer's order, and so on.
While the intention is good, a TikTok video shows how a customer aggressively approached a woman after unknowingly purchasing $60 of food at Taco Bell in a pay-it-forward chain.
According to the customer, she was unaware of the chain when placing her order. While the issue was resolved amicably, this shows why paying it forward is generally frowned upon.
For the most part, commenters agreed that paying it forward was a lot more hassle than it's worth. Fast-food workers also find paying it forward to be an unnecessary complication.
One Reddit commenter explained, "It makes way more sense as a one-off act of kindness to the person behind you, not forcing them into paying for other people's food."
Instead of participating in the chain, you can use the funds you would've spent to buy extra food for someone in need, give it to food banks, or leave it as a tip for the employee.
