Why McDonald's International Menus Are Way Better Than The U.S.
By Matthew Wilson
In its international locations, McDonald's often incorporates local foods and flavors not found in the U.S., and many Americans wonder why these items are only available abroad.
In a TikTok video, former corporate McDonald's chef Mike Haracz said it all boils down to the supply chain for maintaining food in the 14,000 McDonald's locations across the U.S.
Haracz explained, "Getting the ingredients for a national launch in the United States is a lot more difficult than, sort of, these local, regional items."
Haracz also said the focus on quickness and efficiency in America contributes to the dull menu items in the U.S.
He said, "Consumers in other countries are more than willing to wait for their food items, so it does not need to be made in the 90 seconds that a U.S. consumer wants it in."
McDonald's also has more competitors in the form of regional favorites. The chain competes with local street vendors, so they must bring their A-game to break into the industry.
In contrast, McDonald's is already at the top of the fast-food restaurant industry in the U.S., where locals are already sold on what the fast-food giant has been offering.
