Why It's Nearly Impossible To Buy A Cake At Costco In Mexico

Costco's sheet cakes have become very popular in Mexico. At some stores, shoppers have been waiting in lines outside before the store even opens in the hopes of acquiring them.
There was even a fight in a Costco parking lot in Juarez in December 2020. Customers had waited for hours to get a cake before the holidays and began arguing with the employees.
Stores now place limits on how many cakes can be purchased by one person. Depending on the location, shoppers are allowed to purchase between two and five cakes per day.
However, the purchase limits don't deter those who are determined to acquire the cakes. Many have earned a lot from reselling the cakes whole or by the slice.
Some customers who want to buy a single cake have complained on social media because Costco locations have increased the prices from $10 to $25 to deter the resellers.
Some Reddit commenters blamed social media for the frenzy, claiming that people shared the profitable reselling idea on TikTok, then others jumped in to make money
for themselves.
