Why Frozen Spinach Is The Ideal Long-Lasting Pick Over Canned
By Grace Allison
Although frozen spinach has a shorter shelf life than canned, it is closer to fresh spinach's color, taste, and nutrients, making it unquestionably the better long-lasting pick.
In pre-processing, the nutrients in canned and frozen spinach are actually similar, but their different processing methods affect the level of nutrients.
Canned spinach requires extensive processing, affecting its color, taste, and nutritional value. It also contains high amounts of sodium, sugar, and other preservatives.
Meanwhile, frozen spinach is simply blanched before freezing. Frozen spinach can be processed with added sodium, but generally in much lower amounts than in canned.
Since frozen spinach is processed immediately after harvesting, the nutritional time-lapse is shorter, allowing it to retain more of its nutritional value for longer.
If you're using canned spinach free from additives, it may be healthier than some frozen spinach brands, but on the whole, frozen spinach is the better long-lasting pick.
