Why Fans Are Still Mourning Cracker Barrel's Halted Chicken Salad Sandwich

Cracker Barrel is the place for wholesome, down-home menu options. One popular item once included on the menu was the chicken salad sandwich, which was sadly discontinued in 2017.
Diners absolutely loved this menu offering, and although it's been absent from the menu for six long years now, devoted Cracker Barrel customers still clamor for its return.
A Twitter post shared a lament that "corporate America got me in the jugular AGAIN" after Cracker Barrel struck the sandwich from its menu. Many are unsure why it was discontinued.
Cracker Barrel's VP of Culinary and Menu Strategy, Cammie Spillyards-Schaefer, explained the chain's menu creation process, which was evident in 2020 with the COVID-19 pandemic.
She stated, "We delete menu items [...] to make room for new signature, craveable menu items that our guests love." The chain's research shows that guests prefer comfort foods.
It's somewhat surprising that the chicken salad sandwich didn't find a home on the new menu. The chain never gave an official reason, but it likely had to do with customer demand.
