When To Utilize Canned Pumpkin Vs. Pumpkin Pie Filling
By John Segura
Although both canned pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie filling can make a delicious pie, they contain different ingredients and cannot be used interchangeably for all recipes.
Canned pumpkin puree contains only puréed pumpkin, but pumpkin pie mix also includes sugar, water, dextrose, and spices like clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.
Both options are great convenience items and make baking pumpkin pies, dessert rolls, and bread a breeze since they typically only require a few additional ingredients.
Pumpkin pie filling can be used similarly, particularly in desserts or dishes that need some added sweetness, such as lattes, smoothies, muffins, and pancakes.
Health-conscious people, diabetics, and those with sugar sensitivities should opt for plain pumpkin puree to have more control over the sugar content in recipes and dishes.
