What's The Right Way To Pronounce Niçoise Salad?
By Jasmine Hanner
The salade Niçoise originated in the city of Nice, nestled in the Provençal region of France, and it consists primarily of olives, tomatoes, anchovies, tuna, hard-boiled eggs, and vinaigrette. In case you are interested in ordering the salad at a restaurant, you’ll want to know how to pronounce it correctly.
The native French speaker behind YouTube's French Truly TV channel explained in a video that Niçoise is pronounced "nee-swahz." If you'd like to sound like a boss while you explain your French skills to the person sitting at the table next to you, be sure to mention that the city of Nice is pronounced the same as the English word niece.
If you're following strict Provençal tradition, a salade Niçoise must be made with fresh vegetables and ingredients like French beans, capers, lemon juice, olive oil, and basil. However, if you just want to make the salad at home, feel free to experiment with different additions such as artichoke hearts or minced onions, or even add it onto two slices of delicious baguette.
