With the rise in popularity of plant-based milk, many people have ditched dairy, switching to dairy-free alternatives. Whether you have a soft spot for cows, are allergic or lactose intolerant, or want to make a change for your health, choosing the right plant-based milk may seem a little overwhelming.
Almond and coconut milk are two of the most popular milk alternatives that work well with most recipes; however, there are a few key differences between the two. Almond milk has a sweet and nutty taste but isn’t as thick as dairy milk, while coconut milk has a richer texture and a sweet taste.
Nutritionally, every 100 grams of sweetened almond milk has 17 calories and no saturated fat, while 100 grams of coconut milk can have between 154 to 230 calories and up to 19 grams of saturated fats. Additionally, almond milk has 188 mg of calcium and 0.42 grams of protein per 100 grams, and coconut milk has 16 mg of calcium and 2.29 grams of protein per 100 grams.
