What's The Best Method For Toasting Walnuts?
By Lauren Farkas
Toasting raw walnuts makes them undoubtedly more crunchy and flavorful, and the simplest way to crisp them up is to toss them onto a baking sheet and pop them in an oven.
A conventional oven or toaster oven is ideal for the best results when toasting a large batch, as it gives your walnuts more room to spread out and cook evenly.
For optimal toasty walnuts, bake them at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for up to 10 minutes. Keep a close eye on the nuts and stir them every few minutes so they don't burn.
When the walnuts are golden-brown, take them out of the oven and transfer them to a cooler surface by spreading them evenly on a plate to prevent them from burning.
Toasting walnuts allows you to customize the flavor with your favorite seasonings, sauces, and oils. Many cooks coat them with olive oil and salt before toasting for extra flavor.
You can also sweeten your walnuts by adding honey, maple syrup, or a simple syrup glaze, or try adding herbs like rosemary, parsley, or chili powder.
