What Exactly Is The Lasagna Fritta At Olive Garden?
By Kalea Martin
Olive Garden's Lasagna Classico is perfect for patrons who crave a classic lasagna, but those who want a lasagna dish with a little twist can order the Lasagna Fritta.
Lasagna Fritta is on the appetizer menu, and unlike a traditional layered lasagna, the dish features individual rolled-up lasagna noodles filled with beef and sausage meat sauce.
The pasta is then breaded with parmesan and fried. The crispy dish is served on a bed of alfredo sauce and topped with grated parmesan and more meat sauce.
While Olive Garden's Lasagna Fritta may not be an authentic Italian dish, Olive Garden claims it was inspired during its culinary team's visit to Veneto, Italy.
Venice, one of the major cities in Veneto, is known for its fried cicchetti, or small bites such as fried cheese, fried meatballs, and fried shrimp.
Fried lasagna isn't one of the traditional varieties of cicchetti, but it does make sense that Olive Garden would create its own version to put on the appetizer menu.
