Honey Bun cake
What Even Is A Honey Bun Cake?
By Megan Anderson
Inspired by the convenient, packaged pastry, honey bun cake is a warm cake with a vanilla glaze and a swirl of brown sugar and cinnamon in the middle.
Honey buns are fried sweet rolls made of honey and dough sprinkled with cinnamon, then rolled up like cinnamon rolls, fried until golden, and dredged in a sticky glaze.
Although baking a cake isn’t as convenient as buying a honey bun, it’s a healthier option, as one Little Debbie honey bun contains 30 grams of sugar and 12 grams of saturated fat.
Honey bun cake is surprisingly easy to make with a box of yellow cake mix and several common household ingredients, such as eggs, oil, brown sugar, cinnamon, and sour cream.
Some TikTokers use cream cheese instead of sour cream, but cream cheese needs to soften and is more difficult to work with — opting for sour cream makes for easier preparation.
The homemade glaze is the key to that sweet, sticky texture, and many users demonstrated poking holes in the cake to allow the glaze to seep through.
