Turn Bland Canned Tuna Into Deliciously Crispy Croquettes
By Elaina Friedman
Canned tuna is a cheap, quick, and low-effort way to add protein to a myriad of dishes. Although its simple applications are great, you can dress it up by making tuna croquettes.
A croquette is basically a deep-fried ball of breadcrumbs. This appetizer is the perfect way to impress your friends with something that looks more involved than it actually is.
This dish is versatile when it comes to fillings, and it typically contains soft and creamy ingredients to counter the crispy exterior — which is why canned tuna works great.
It's helpful to follow a recipe, so use a potato croquette recipe and combine it with two five-ounce cans of tuna, some dill, lemon juice, and Dijon mustard.
Form the mixture into balls, then cover the bottom of a skillet in oil. Fry the croquettes in small batches over medium heat until golden brown.
Since canned tuna is already cooked, each batch only needs a few minutes. While croquettes are delicious on their own, they're even better with a tangy, creamy dip on the side.
