The White Rice Ina Garten Can't Stop Using
By Heidi Chaya
Filling, healthy, and friendly in both flavor and texture, rice is a mainstay of many diets, the basis of countless meals, and commonly served as a side dish. There are approximately 120,000 varieties of rice worldwide, but celebrity chef Ina Garten has one that she can’t stop using.
Garten’s favorite is Texmati rice, a product of RiceSelect, which is described by the White Texmati label as a "signature variety American-style Basmati rice." The RiceSelect website boasts a quote by the celebrity chef, "I like the quality of Texmati rice. I use brown basmati rice, white basmati rice, arborio rice, and couscous. I just find the flavor fantastic."
According to RiceSelect, Texmati rice is a special cross between long-grain white rice and Basmati rice — a white rice usually grown in the Himalayan regions. The company also offers a variety of brown rice, and both white and brown products have wonderful textures, a warmly nutty taste, and an alluring popcorn-like smell.
