The Unexpected Ingredient That Will Take Your Chicken Soup Up A Notch
By Camryn Teder
The chilly season of winter is upon us, and with the cold weather comes the time for hot cocoa, warm focaccia, and a steaming bowl of soup. Chicken noodle soup is one of the most popular varieties, and Daily Meal’s recipe developer Stephanie Rapone and the Daily Meal staff crafted their own take on the soup, with one ingredient that flips the whole recipe on its head.
While she used the standard ingredients for the chicken noodle soup like veggies, butter, garlic, salt and pepper, herbs like thyme and bay leaves, chicken bouillon and broth, and the chicken itself, cinnamon was her secret. Per The Daily Meal, a dash of cinnamon can mean all the difference in the world for your chicken noodle.
Rapone explains why it meshes so well with the soup's other ingredients, “You would never taste it and think ‘Oh, there's cinnamon in this,’ but it provides a really amazing warm undertone to the soup.” So, if you’re looking to add a little kick to your next bowl of chicken noodle soup, reach for some cinnamon.
