The Trick For Cooking Your Thanksgiving Turkey Just Like In A Smoker
By Elaina Friedman
When it comes to cooking a Thanksgiving turkey, some people leave it in the oven and others put it in the smoker. To save time and create a deeply flavorful bite, you can buy wood chips and turn your home oven into a smoking rig.
Vaughn Stafford Gray from Lifehacker suggests using maple, apple, or pecan wood chips and filling a disposable pan halfway with pre-soaked wood chips that will give you an “Instagram-worthy deep-brown color” and will “impart a subtle sweetness and delicate smokiness.” Next, soak your chips in water for 30 minutes, spread them evenly on a sheet pan, and add a quarter cup of the soaking liquid to the pan.
Top the wood with a wire rack and a catering tray poked with 10-12 holes, and add the turkey. Wrap the whole thing in foil, set the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit, and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the turkey reaches 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
