The State With The Most KFC Restaurants Won't Surprise You
By Chase Shustack
Even though it seems like the state of Kentucky would have the most Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) restaurants, it pales in comparison to California's abundance of restaurants.
According to ScrapeHero, out of the 3,895 KFC locations across the United States, 11% of stores are located in California, with over 200 more than second and third-place states.
Kentucky reportedly only has 101 KFC locations, but California has 427, as it's the hub of many other fast-food giants, essentially rooting car culture in the U.S.
Fast-food restaurants like KFC capitalized on California's fast-food industry in the '40s and '50s, setting up shops to compete with other chains and using drive-thru windows.
KFC's widespread California presence ranges from major cities like Los Angeles to smaller areas like Yucca Valley, Long Beach, and Huntington Beach that boast at least one.
