The Staple Ingredient Duff Goldman Never Wants To See Again In His Life
By Heidi Chaya
It's not all foodie love that web users are spreading, as celebrity baker Duff Goldman tweeted, "Bell peppers ruin everything they touch. Everything. Ruined. Everything." Many agreed, rallying against everything from the peppers' flavor to the burps they cause (via TODAY).
Goldman's statement revealed a dislike of green bell peppers, which have an unsweet, vegetal, and bitter taste because they aren't technically fully ripened. Also, the mowed-grass odor of green bell peppers comes from 2-methoxy-3-isobutylpyrazine, per the American Journal of Enology and Viticulture, and you might find a possible embryonic pepper growing inside.
In addition to being hard to prepare, the skin is also hard for the body to process and may cause digestive issues, according to Registered Dietician Brynn McDowell (via Insider). However, green peppers are rich in iron and lutein and contain a lot of vitamin C, so if you can stand the taste, unlike Duff Goldman, give peppers another chance.
