The Sneaky Reason You Should Always Ask For A McDonald's Receipt
By Kelly Douglas
Asking for a receipt when you pick up food worth a few dollars might seem unnecessary, but it sometimes pays to do so, particularly at McDonald's. This hack won't necessarily save you extra cash, but it will guarantee you are treated like royalty and get the best McDonald's experience possible.
As former McDonald's employee Kamran Adnan noted on Quora, McDonald's receives its fair share of secret shoppers — called "mystery shoppers" or "Gapbusters" — throughout the day. These customers get paid to review McDonald's food and service, and the chain’s employees are trained to look out for them and serve them the freshest food every time.
While the chain’s employees can't always be sure who's an undercover reviewer, employees know that "Gapbusters" get reimbursed for the cost of the food that they purchase, so they always ask for a receipt. If you ask for a receipt — especially between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. — you'll likely be served first and receive the freshest food.
