The Simple Way To Upgrade Your Ramen

According to the World Instant Noodles Association (WINA), around 118 billion servings of instant noodles were consumed around the world in 2021. With so many people enjoying instant ramen noodles today, let's take a look at how the popular instant classic got its start, along with a simple way to upgrade the dish the next time you make it.
You only need three ingredients to upgrade your ramen: grated or minced garlic cloves, raw eggs, and Japanese mayonnaise. As of November 2022, the hashtag #mayoramen had garnered 18.7 million views on TikTok — however, the supposed creator of the recipe is a Japanese YouTuber, Harapeko Grizzly, who posted a how-to video in December 2020.
To make the soup base, they mixed garlic paste, raw egg, mayonnaise, and flavoring packets from Sapporo Ichiban miso flavor ramen into a bowl. Add the noodles to roughly two cups of boiling water and cook until they are soft and loose, then pour the hot noodles into the bowl with the soup base, mix it up, and serve.
