The Simple Way To Upgrade Tiramisu
By Nicole Rivas
Tiramisu is a classic Italian dessert made of ladyfingers soaked in espresso, rum, and sugar, which are then layered in between silky ribbons of mascarpone cheese. Contrary to what many may think, it's a versatile dessert with a ton of options for customization, and your tiramisu can even include fresh seasonal ingredients.
Berries are a popular pick to add to tiramisu, and pretty much any fruit you like can be layered within the tiramisu or added on top. You could also incorporate herbs such as fresh mint, sweet basil, lavender, and sage, but be sure they pair well with your other ingredients.
If you want a tiramisu without any alcohol in it, you can replace the rum with syrups or extra espresso. There are also creative ingredients to swap out the espresso with for those who don’t like the bitter taste, such as chicory, barley coffee, hot chocolate, and matcha tea.
