The Simple Ingredient That Beefs Up Pasta Sauce Without Added Meat
By Riya Anne Polcastro
If you want a pasta sauce that isn't meat-heavy but still packs a beefed-up taste, you simply have to add some beef bouillon to your pot of pasta sauce.
Bouillon adds savoriness to your pasta sauce, but it won't make your sauce any thicker. It will also give your sauce a combination of umami and extra savory beef flavor.
Bouillon will give your pasta depth because of its dehydrated beef stock, as well as the powdered carrots, onions, and garlic.
Some brands use yeast extract for its nuttiness and umami, while others incorporate beef fat and dehydrated cooked beef to amp up the bovine intensity.
However, it's important to remember that bouillon is a strong, concentrated flavor with quite a bit of sodium in it. So you don't want to go overboard and add too much.
One cube or tablespoon of bouillon powder is plenty for a small batch of pasta sauce, but for larger amounts, it's okay to triple the amount.
