The Secret Ingredient That Gives Brownies Extra Fudgy Goodness
By Camryn Teder
While you might have a favorite brownie recipe, there's one secret ingredient you should consider adding to the mix for some extra fudgy goodness: sour cream.
Whether you want to elevate a boxed mix or alter a family recipe, adding sour cream brings extra moisture to brownies, making for much silkier bites than those without it.
Sour cream also balances and counteracts the brownies' intense sweetness with its innate tang. Be sure to use full-fat sour cream since it's fattier and makes the brownies fudgier.
The amount of sour cream needed varies per recipe, but adding anywhere from ¼ cup to ½ cup to the batter is a good place to start. Add more to the next batch if necessary.
If you think your brownies have enough moisture, sour cream also makes a great swap for milk. You can swap out milk for sour cream using a one-to-one ratio for added richness.
