The Secret For A Restaurant-Worthy Deep Dish Pizza Is Your Slow Cooker
By Greta Pano
If you want to make a restaurant-quality deep-dish pizza at home with minimal effort and without making a mess in your oven, all you need is a slow cooker.
The slow cooker's low temperature makes it practically impossible to burn your pie. It also produces a crust that's crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
Allow your homemade or store-bought dough to reach room temperature, then stretch it a couple of inches longer and wider than your machine for a thicker crust perimeter.
To make a traditional, Chicago-style deep-dish pizza, layer the pizza dough with mozzarella first, then add your favorite toppings, and finally pour the sauce over the top.
Spray your slow cooker with oil and lay your dough directly in the pot, then set it to cook on high or low, depending on how fast you want it to be ready.
Alternatively, you can stretch the pizza dough over an oiled sheet of parchment paper and grab the corners to lower it into the machine for easier removal and to keep it intact.
After it cooks, simply remove the pizza by grabbing the ends of the paper again to ensure that it comes out in one piece, rather than removing it with a spatula and making a mess.
