The Safety Checklist To Hit Before Putting Ingredients In An Instant Pot
By Chase Shustack
A cross between a pressure cooker and a slow cooker, the Instant Pot has the ability to slow-cook foods at an incredibly fast speed. However, just because it’s convenient doesn’t mean there isn’t potential for danger, and there are some things you should keep an eye out for to ensure your Instant Pot is operating properly.
Some key components of your Instant Pot to pay close attention to include the lid, the lid's seal, and the heating element. The lid should have a clean and undamaged silicone rubber seal that forms a tight, unbroken seal when placed onto the pot, and the main heating element should be thoroughly cleaned and dry of any liquids.
If you are in the midst of using your Instant Pot and you notice or hear air escaping, even if the lid is on, immediately turn it off and let it cool down before inspecting. If the silicone rubber seal on the lid has cracked, you can easily replace it yourself using a replacement ring (which you can buy online), but damaged heating elements may need to be seen by a professional.
