The Rubber Band Hack That Will Keep Your Apples From Becoming Brown
By Crystal Antonace
If you want to maintain the portability of whole apples but wish you had a better way of eating this fruit, a simple rubber band may be the answer to all your problems.
Youtuber Grant Thompson posted a video featuring a step-by-step guide on how to apply a brilliant rubber band hack to keep your sliced apples from browning.
In the video, Thompson places a whole apple stem side down on a cutting board. He then makes four strategic cuts down the fruit and around the core in a tic-tac-toe style pattern.
Hold the apple together as you make these cuts, and add the rubber band to keep the apple's shape intact.
This method is handy for easy snacking and keeps your apple slices together in one central form to delay browning.
For further freshness, mist your slices with lemon juice or soak them in a saltwater solution before assembling. Store your banded fruit in the refrigerator in a plastic bag.
