The Reason Aldi Beef Is Usually So Much Cheaper
By C.A. Pinkham
Inflation and a 20% increase in food prices have made it hard to afford groceries. Bulk-purchase chains like Aldi are loved for their affordable prices, especially regarding meat.
Aldi keeps costs down by using regional, locally sourced meat that is better for customers' wallets and the environment.
Years of drought and the COVID-19 pandemic have caused farmers to sell large numbers of cattle. The U.S. has the lowest number of cattle in decades, which has raised beef prices.
Aldi works around these price increases in several ways, including having lower staffing levels than other grocery stores and eschewing name-brand products.
The chain makes it a point to source from local farms where possible. This sustainable approach avoids heavy transportation costs and the resulting carbon footprint.
