The Quickest Method For Getting Eggs To Room Temperature
By Samantha Dillard
Using cold eggs in a recipe calling for room-temperature eggs can cause problems with texture, increased cooking times, and lumpy batter. While cold eggs need about 65 minutes to reach room temperature, leaving refrigerated food in an environment with a temperature above 40 degrees Fahrenheit supports bacterial growth.
Luckily, there's a method to bring eggs to room temperature in just minutes instead of waiting over an hour. All you’ll need to do is choose a bowl big enough for the number of eggs you need, place the whole eggs into the bowl, cover them with lukewarm — not hot — water, and allow them to sit in the bowl and warm up.
Depending on the egg size, the water temperature, and the temperature of your fridge, the eggs will feel about the same temperature as the water in just five to 10 minutes, meaning they’re ready to use. Remember that room-temperature eggs should not be left out for longer than two hours, and it’s better to use them quickly once they reach about 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
