The Only McDonald's Location That Will Take Your Order On A Boat
By Chase Shustack
While you're more familiar with the average McDonald's on the corner or by the strip mall, certain McDonald's locations are more about their locations and atmosphere than Quarter Pounders and Happy Meals. One particular site in Germany even lets you paddle up to order McDonald’s.
Situated along a small canal on Germany’s Elbe River, this McDonald’s has a special “drive-thru” section called the “McBoat,” where hungry boaters or kayakers "pull up" and pick up an order of McDonald's. YouTuber Tom Scott explored this waterfront McDonald's in 2021, and his video detailed how this unique "paddle-thru" concept has been in place since 2015.
While it once had its own speaker system for water-traveling customers, it now relies on mobile phone orders from river travelers, with employees watching on a closed-circuit television and bringing down orders to the dock when they’re ready. The dock closes during the winter and reopens during spring and summer.
